FEA Calculation Engineer - Motorsport; Composite structures

The purpose of the job and main job responsiblilities

  • Creation and calculation of simulation models
  • Concept design and optimisation of laminate components
  • Definition of composite laminates and their production
  • Detailed analysis and evaluation concerning strength and stiffness requirements
  • Definition and guidance of testing for model verification
  • Project work under own supervision
  • Full documentation in English

    • Your profile

  • BSc in Mechanical, Automotive or Aeronautic Engineering
  • A sound knowledge and relevant experience of composite FE-Analysis
  • Very good structural and mechanical understanding
  • Hands on experience in composite production technologies
  • In-depth knowledge of professional simulation tools (NASTRAN, Laminate Modeler)
  • CAD experience (CATIA V5) of benefit
  • Self-responsible and analytical working style, good communication and team approach

    Gearbox/Transmission Design Engineer - Motorsport

    The purpose of the job and main job responsiblilities

    For defined projects or assembly groups, you will be responsible for 2D-layouts, calculations, 3D-design, detailing, and production engineering.

    Your profile

  • As a graduate engineer you offer at least 3 years of post-graduate experience in gearbox / mechanical design, preferably with Motorsport experience, automotive or aeronautical environment.
  • Excellent CATIA V5 skills as well as a good command of FEM and the classical calculation methods are mandatory.
  • Sound knowledge of state of the art materials, surface - and heat treatments is required as well as project management and communication skills.
  • CAD CATIA V4 proficient (Solids, Surfaces & Drafting) & VPM data management system
  • Computer literate in Excel & Word
  • Good interpersonal & communication skills
  • A positive attitude towards flexible working hours

    Using the most modern tools for strength calculations you will ensure creation of conceptual designs that comply with the requirements for strength, design life and stiffness, and which results in a design with minimal weight.

    The main tasks are

  • Translating the requirements regarding strength, design life and stiffness into various conceptual designs.
  • Developing conceptual designs which comply with all specified requirements, using an iterative and concurrent process, in cooperation with conceptual designers and manufacturing specialists.
  • Verifying whether the chosen conceptual design complies with the requirements.
  • Rawing up test specifications to demonstrate that a design complies with the certification requirements.
  • Contributing to the specification of the contents and size of the work packages within a project.
  • Analyzing and solving problems/complaints with regard to the design during the manufacture or user phases.
  • Contributing to savings in costs and reductions in the lead time of the work.
  • Coaching and supervision of new and less-experienced designers.
